Dementia Palliative Care Clinical Trials Program
Joy Douglas, PhD, MS
Scholar, 2022
Dr. Douglas is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition, a Registered Dietitian, and a Board Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition. Her research involves nutritional issues in older adults, particularly those with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). Prior to coming to academia, she provided clinical nutrition services to older adults in acute and long term care settings, where she was regularly challenged by the mealtime difficulties and malnutrition that she encountered in older adults with ADRD. That bedside experience is the driving force for her research interest in this area and provides her with a real-life perspective as she works to improve mealtime experiences and nutritional intake among older adults with ADRD. In the coming years, she hopes to implement and evaluate interventions to reduce mealtime distress for individuals with ADRD and their caregivers through caregiver training programs.
